Why Pessimist

India has been free only for 63 years as on 15th August 2010 and people have started comparing it with US the world leader and being pessimist that India can go no where. I just don't understand can a country which came out of a 200 year old subjugation wherin it was subject to all kind of exploitation and was was pushed back from its growth path and which faced three external aggressions on its land in 63 years of its independence (2 wars with Pakistan and the chinese war of 1962) just stand on equal footing for comparison with a coubtry which has been free now for more than 200 years and has not faced a single externl agression on its own land; (the only conflict US has faced on its land in these 200 years is the civil war of 1860s that strenghened its unity).
India is progressing and it has done fairly well in last 10 yars or so. Our main problem is that we are in neighbourhood that is turbulent enough to disturb any growth strategy. We have always to be focussing hard on on security of our borders in comparison to food and life security within the nation as sovereignty cann't be the cost paid for growth and development.
Let us compare US and Indian neighbourhood and then acess the situation. US on its north has Canada, one of the most peace loving countries of the world; India in its north, north east and north west has China, the dragon ready to enter into Indian land the moment security loosens rather they don't even need that, Pakistan(do I need to add explanation), Afghanistan ( disturbance gifted to us by US)and Nepal (Maoists, Monarchists and Maoists). Do we stand a chance of comparison on grounds of turbulance.
In South we have the Indian Ocean, nature's gift that is supposed to make prosperous but  it is messanger that brought us 200 years of subjugation. Vasco d gama entered India through sea route, then the portugese, the French and finally the mighty Britishers and their emperialism. Rest is history that we have to live with but, we need not be obsessed with it. Times will change and we will definitely win the race of development . Its just that we need to have patience and optimism. We can't allow pessimism to take over our optimism, our greatest support in this race we need to win for our 25 million poors and appx. 5 million malnourished children and many more needy citizens. We need to stand together and win it for ourselves.
