I don't know why most of the people find train journey annoying. At least I find them interesting. I personally feel that if you have to get a glimpse of real India apart from its monumental beaty nothing is better than a train journey. Studying away from home gave me the oppurtunity to be a frequent train boarder and I recently boarded a Train from Patna to Delhi to get back to my college. The train was sheduled at 5:30pm and I got the priviledge to board it at 5:30 am the next day, yes you read it correct it is 5:30 am the next day. That's Indian railways for you ladies and gentlemen.
However, the 12 hour long wait made my overnight journey a day journey giving me an oppurtunity to have a glimpse of all that I missed in a night journey. For the first time I saw river Ganga near Allahabad from train and although I frequently see Ganga in Patna and have a fascination for it, watching it this time was like a different experience. I get a different kind of pleasure in watching different towns, small & large from the window of train, each town having its special appearance. However, what attracts me most is to watch the crossing farms streching endlessly and meeting the horizon. That is the real India for me. It is wonderful to see vast stretches of land with crops, roads with no glimpse of houses making you imagine how far do people live. Crops, crops and crops of variety give the greenery that is soothening to eyes.
One beautiful experience that I had in this journey was of standing near the entrance of the coach and watching the fields crossby. The feel of fresh air on my face was refreshing. I know it is dangerous to stand on the gate but, I was very much inside in the safe zone. The experience was really amazing. Moving on the train crossed Aligarh after which I got a new experience. I had never realized there were so many small stations between Aligarh and Ghaziabad till this journey in which the train by stopping for at least ten long minutes at each of these stations desrted in the night gave me a new realization and made my wait to reach my destination a long one. It reached Khurja which I knew existed but, then came the long list of small unsheduled stoppages at Vair, Ajayabpur, Dadri, Maripat and some that I don't remember. However, watching these stations that were deserted in the night was also an experience in itself. Overall, I was very happy that although 15 hours late but, still I reached my destination safe and sound with lot of new experiences and memories.
